Better late than never

The Don of cricket Sachin Tendulkar scored his hundreth international century in a one day match against Bangladesh in the Asia cup 2012 at Mirpur on March 16. The Indian legend now has 51 test match and 49 one day hundreds in all.

It was as if a weight had been lifted from the shoulders of the Indian cricket fans as their wait of over one year for the stupendous feat came to an end.

A tweet from the Bolywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan said it all

India breathes normally ..!! Sachin completes an incredible feat !! A hundred 100's .. Never done before, perhaps never after !!!

In an interview to a popular news channel the maestro confessed that it was more relief than joy having completed the feat. He reiterated that milestones were never what he was after and it is the simple pleasure of playing cricket that keeps him going.

Sachin also had a very unique viewpoint on the usual opinion expressed by many that a sportsman should retire when he or she is at the top of their game. He opined that when one is at the top of their game then it is selfish to leave the game. He believes that at the height of ones powers a sportsman should be willing to serve the nation and not quit the game.

It would seem from the interview that he might want to continue as long as he thinks he can contribute towards the game. The kind of ambassador that he has been for the Indian cricket he has every right to decide when to hang his boots.

Sachin had once famously said

When people throw stones at you, you turn them into milestones

He has certainly lived upto that.

Sachin's message to his million fans on completing the milestone was

Don’t stop chasing your dreams, because dreams do come true, he said. “Dreams do come true – I had to wait for mine to come true for 22 years. We won the World Cup after 22 years, but they do come true
