TWIGGY: THE FAMOUS WATER SKIING SQUIRREL

A recent news item about a talented squirrel who can water- ski attracted  my attention. Curious, I surfed the net for a while and found a number of videos in which the squirrel called Twiggy  can be seen displaying its amazing skills in water skiing. 

       The animal does not step inside the pool without putting on a  tailored life vest. She perches on small custom made skiis holding a cable with her paws while a radio controlled toy power-boat whisks her all around the pool. 

       This squirrel is a successor to a generation of squirrels with the original Twiggy having been found and rescued as a baby by Chuck and Lou Best a couple in Florida, when a hurricane displaced the rodent in 1978. Chuck decided to train Twiggy to ski with the help of his daughter’s remote controlled boat and the idea worked. Since then there have been a series of Twiggys who have been performing in Boat show tours.  The famous animal has featured in a number of newspapers, magazines, TV shows and even 2 Frat pack films. The Twiggys who have since retired are family pets.
