- Simulates the endocrine system, including the pituitary glands
- Secretes hormones (catecholamines that include epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine) that makes one alert and stimulates heart, glands, hormones and breathing (by contracting and relaxing the arteries)
- Releases endorphines and enkephalins (painkillers related to opiates like morphine and heroin) that ease pain.
- Chemically activates the right hemisphere of the brain which governs emotion and creativity
