Translation
Pilgrimage, penance, compassion and charity bring only an iota of significance, as that of a sesame seed. Who so ever listens, believes, obeys and loves the divine Word of God from the core of their heart, cleanses ones soul in the sacred shrine deep within. Whatever virtues I have are all the gifts You have bestowed upon me, nothing is mine. Without virtues and noble qualities, true devotion cannot be achieved. O self existent Lord, You are the Primal Word, the creator. Truth and beauty are always craved by the mind.  What was the moment, what was the date and day? What was the season, what was the month when the Universe was created? The time of creation is not known to the Scholars even if it is written in the Scriptures; the time is also not known to Qazis who study the Holy Quran. Nor do the Yogis or any one else know the time, date, season and month of creation. Only the Creator knows when He created the world. How can we speak of Him; how can we praise Him; how can we describe Him; how can we know Him. Guru Nanakdevji says that everyone describes You, one wiser than the other. Great is the Master, great is His Name; everything happens according to His Will. Satguru Nanakdevji says who so ever claims to be knower, will not be honoured in the next world.

 PAURI- 22

Paatalaa Paatal Lakh Aagasaa Aagas
Orhak Orhak Bhaal Thakay Vayd Kehan Ik Vaat
Sahas Athaarah Kahan Kataybaa Asuloo Ik Daat
Laykhaa Hoay Ta Likheea Likhai Hoay Vinaas
Nanak Vadaa Aakheeai Aapay Jaanai Aap

Translation
There a netherworlds beneath netherworlds and hundreds of thousands of heavenly worlds above. The Scriptures say that people have gone weary searching after the limit of Lord’s creation. The Holy Scriptures talk of 18000 worlds, but in reality there is only one essence. The account of Lord cannot be written, as the person himself dies while writing about the infinite. O Nanak, He is great; He is the power that knows itself.

 PAURI- 23

Saalaahee Saalaaahi Aytee Surat Na Paaeaa
Naadeeaa Atai Vaah Pavehi Samund Na Jaaneeai
Samund Saah Sultaan Girehaa Saytee Maal Dhan
Keerhee Tul Na Hovnee Jay Tis Manhu Na Veesrahi

Translation
One may sing glories of the Lord and yet not be able to comprehend Him. It is like streams and rivers flowing into the ocean without knowing its depth. Kings whose kingdom is as vast as the oceans and wealth as large as the mountains do not compare to an ant whose mind is fixed on the Lord.

 PAURI- 24

Ant Na Siftee Kahan Na Ant, Ant Na Karnai Dayn Na Ant
Ant Na Vaykhan Sunan Na Ant, Ant Na Jaapai Kiaa Man Mant

Jayvad Aap Jaanai Aap Aap, Nanak Nadree Karmi Daat

Translation
Lord’s qualities and their narrations are countless.  Countless are His actions and countless are His gifts. Countless are His visions and hearing. His limits cannot be perceived; the mystery of the mind of the Mystic is not known. Limits of  the created Universe are unknowable. Its limits here and  beyond cannot be perceived. Endless yearn to fathom His limits, but His limits cannot be found. No one can know the vastness of His creation; the more one says about it the more there is left unsaid. Great is the Master, exalted is His abode; Greater than that is His Name. Should anyone be as great as the Lord, only then will that person be able to fathom Him. The Lord alone knows how great He is. Satguru Nanakdevji says that  blessings come through His glance of grace.

Translation
The Lord’s countless bounties cannot be expressed or recorded. He is a great giver and holds back nothing. Many men and heroic warriors beg at His door. Those are many and beyond count. Many exhaust themselves consumed of evil deeds. Countless are those who repeatedly receive the Lord’s gifts but deny receiving. There are a number of fools who receive God’s gratitude. Many endure pain, hunger, grief and are continuously beaten. Even those are gifts from the Lord. By the Will of the Lord, emancipation from bondage and liberation can be attained. No one can say anything in this. If any fool tries to intervene, he receives many lashes on his face. Lord Himself knows everything and He Himself gives everything. Few are those who acknowledge this. One who is blessed sings praises of the Lord. Guru Nanakdevji says that such a person becomes King of Kings.
